Statement by President Nick Tran

Remember when Spaniards were spraying Western tourists with water guns and telling them to “go home”?
The people they targeted were legal visitors. Families. Couples. Tourists sitting at cafés, spending money, obeying the law.
Now imagine how many Spaniards feel watching their own government lose control of the border.
In a matter of hours, thousands of migrants, overwhelmingly Moroccan nationals and largely military-age men, surged into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta. They swam around breakwaters, scaled barriers, overwhelmed security forces, and forced Spain to deploy the military. People died in the chaos.
Think about the irony.
Some were enraged by law-abiding tourists enjoying lunch on a patio.
But the real threat was never the tourist with a camera.
It was a government that forgot the first duty of every sovereign nation: to protect its borders.
This isn’t about race.
It isn’t about hatred.
It isn’t about opposing legal immigration.
It is about sovereignty.
Every nation has the right, and the duty, to decide who enters its territory, under what conditions, and in what numbers.
A border that cannot be enforced is not a border. It is a suggestion. Lose control of your borders, and you eventually lose control of your nation.
Spain is learning that lesson the hard way.
America should be paying very close attention.
A government’s first responsibility is not to the rest of the world. It is to the citizens who built the nation, defend it, fund it, and will pass it on to their children. That means securing the border, enforcing the law, and putting the interests of American citizens before every other nation.
That is not xenophobia. It is the very definition of national sovereignty.
America was founded by a people whose laws, customs, and moral framework were unmistakably rooted in the Christian tradition. Those principles, along with the rule of law, individual liberty, personal responsibility, and the belief that our rights come from God rather than government, do not preserve themselves. They endure only when a nation has the will to defend them.
America’s sovereignty does not defend itself. The men and women we elect are the gatekeepers of our borders, our laws, our culture, and ultimately our nation’s future. If they refuse to put America first, they have failed in their first obligation to the American people.
The lesson from Spain is clear. Our sovereignty will not be preserved by slogans. It will be preserved by the men and women we elect.
As President of Veterans for America First Texas, I intend to ensure our support goes only to candidates who will defend our borders, protect our sovereignty, uphold the values that built this nation, and put the American people first.
That is the standard. Nothing less.
