New May Victory for Veterans

Texas Vice President, Veterans for America First National Vet Force Director, United States Navy Veteran As a Navy veteran fighting for better care options, I testified against Texas Senate Bill 3 in the 89th Legislative Session. That bill aimed to ban consumable hemp-derived THC products tools many veterans use for relief. Veterans need more access, not restrictions. In a strong follow-up at the federal level, the U.S. House of Representatives delivered a major win in mid-May2026. The May House Amendment On May 15, 2026, the House passed a bipartisan amendment to the FY 2027 MilCon-VA Appropriations bill. Sponsored by combat veteran Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) and co-chairs of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, it passed by voice vote.
The amendment targets restrictive parts of VHA Directive 1315. If enacted into law, it would allow VA providers in states with legal medical marijuanato discusss cannabis openly as a potential treatment option

This ends the era of VA doctors being sidelined while veterans seek costly outside certifications. Why This ruling MattersVeterans commonly deal with chronic pain, PTSD, sleep issues, and anxiety. Many report cannabis helps manage symptoms and even reduces opioid dependence. This change promotes honest, integrated care with the doctors who know our full histories without forcing use or changing federal scheduling overnight. It pairs with another passed amendment advancing psychedelic therapies for PTSD and TBI, showing real momentum for veteran-focused solutions. Our Ongoing Fight Veterans for America First puts veterans first supporting practical reforms that honor service while cutting bureaucracy. This May action aligns with the principles I defended in Texas: give veterans choices and transparency. The amendment now heads to Senate negotiations and the President’s desk. We will keep pushing for final passage. For veterans now: Be honest with your VA providers about any cannabis or hemp use it won’t affect your benefits. Explore state programs responsibly where legal. This is real progress. Our veterans earned the best possible care and the dignity of informed options. Veterans for America First will continue the fight. God bless our veterans, God bless Texas, and God bless America.
